St. Petersburg Teacher Critically Injured After Student Attack Raises Safety Concerns

A teenager who attacked a teacher at School No. 191 in St. Petersburg had undergone a psychiatric exam months earlier. The incident left the educator critically injured, with the victim still relying on a ventilator. Authorities have since confirmed no prior psychiatric concerns were recorded for the student or his family.

The attack took place at a well-known school in the city’s central district. The 17-year-old, who lives with his mother, had passed a routine psychiatric assessment during a school medical checkup in September 2025. No psychiatrist was formally linked to his case, and no red flags were raised at the time.

The case has highlighted gaps in how schools and health services track potential risks among students. With the teacher still fighting for her life, authorities are reviewing whether current screening procedures need strengthening. No further details about the attacker’s motives have been released.
