Swiss Helplines See Surge in Calls from People Struggling with Forbidden Attractions
Helplines in Switzerland supporting individuals troubled by sexual attraction to minors have seen a sharp rise in calls. In 2025, contacts jumped to 348, up from 204 the previous year. Experts link the increase to growing public awareness of these services.
Around 15 helplines currently operate across Switzerland, including those run by Pro Familia, Caritas, the Red Cross, victim support services, and regional authorities. Among them are DIS NO (Darknet Support Network) and Beforemore, which focuses on preventing the consumption of abusive material. These services aim to lower the barriers for people seeking help.
The rise in inquiries has been particularly noticeable in French-speaking regions. There, calls climbed from 137 in 2024 to 173 in 2025. Callers often include not just affected individuals but also family members, friends, and professionals like therapists or social workers.
Most people who reach out are ready to take steps toward change. Initial conversations tend to be fast-paced, with callers expressing stress and sharing concerns in a rush. Helpline staff then help structure these worries and guide them toward appropriate support. While the services do not provide therapy, they can direct callers to specialised therapists or other resources.
The growing number of calls suggests more people are recognising these helplines as a first point of contact. By offering guidance and referrals, the services help individuals address harmful thoughts or behaviours. The trend reflects both increased need and better access to support.
