So oft rang the children and youth welfare hotline 2025 - Thuringia's Youth Helpline Sees Record Calls as Trust in Support Grows
The Thuringia Child and Youth Helpline experienced a sharp rise in calls in 2025. Nearly 2,500 young people sought support—an increase of around 1,000 from the previous year. The service remains free, anonymous, and available at all times for those in need.
Many callers contacted the helpline about family conflicts, relationship struggles, or school pressures. Of the total calls, around 800 resulted in longer conversations with counsellors. Some young people disconnected immediately after the line was answered, while others made prank or test calls—though test calls often helped them get comfortable with the service.
Parents seeking guidance can also access free, anonymous support by calling 0800 111 0550. For young people, a nationwide helpline, Kinder- und Jugendtelefon, operates under the number 116 111, run by Nummer gegen Kummer. This service offers similar support, available Monday to Saturday from 2 pm to 8 pm.
In rare cases, counsellors advised callers to contact child protective services or the police. Most issues, however, were resolved through listening and guidance.
The helpline continues to provide a vital lifeline for young people facing difficulties. With both regional and national options available, support remains accessible and confidential. The rise in calls suggests growing awareness and trust in the service.
