Top Cardiologist Reveals Simple Daily Habits for a Stronger Heart
Alexei Alekseenko, chief cardiologist of the Kuzbass region, has highlighted the critical role of lifestyle in maintaining heart health. According to him, medical care accounts for only about 20% of a person's wellbeing, with the rest shaped by daily habits and surroundings. His advice aligns closely with long-standing WHO guidelines, which have emphasised diet, exercise, and avoiding harmful substances since their 2021 update.
Alekseenko stressed that regular physical activity remains one of the best ways to protect cardiovascular health. He recommended at least 40 minutes of brisk walking each day, along with outdoor aerobic exercises like skiing, skating, or cycling. For those struggling to find time, he suggested simple alternatives—walking the dog, taking the stairs, or even dancing.
Diet plays an equally important part in his guidance. He advised cutting back on fatty foods, animal fats, and salt while increasing intake of vegetables, fruits, fish, nuts, and whole grains. Steamed dishes were preferred over fried ones to reduce unnecessary oils.
Beyond exercise and nutrition, Alekseenko warned against alcohol and nicotine, both known to damage heart health. He also underlined the need for a balanced routine, urging at least eight hours of sleep per night and fewer stressful situations. These measures, he noted, have been consistently supported by WHO recommendations over the past five years.
The cardiologist's recommendations focus on practical, everyday changes rather than medical solutions. By prioritising movement, a cleaner diet, and stress reduction, individuals can significantly lower their risk of cardiovascular disease. His advice reflects broader public health guidance that has remained steady since 2021.
