Tragic family massacre in Madhya Pradesh village leaves three dead
A tragic incident unfolded in Sawanga village, Betul district, where a 25-year-old tribal youth, Deepak Dhurve, allegedly killed three family members and injured his young nephew. The gruesome discovery was made by neighbours who found the bodies inside a locked thatched hut on Thursday afternoon.
Deepak Dhurve, once a bright student who topped his Class XII exams, had reportedly struggled with mental illness for years. Villagers noted his declining mental health, worsened by his failure to secure a government job despite preparing for the CRPF recruitment exam. His frustration and depression appear to have escalated into violence.
The victims were identified as Deepak's parents, Raju (55) and Kamalti Dhurve (45), along with his younger brother Dilip (23). Deepak also killed his pet cat and attacked his 5-year-old nephew, who survived with injuries. When neighbours finally broke into the hut, they found Deepak sitting beside the bodies.
Police recovered an iron rod and a lathi from the scene, believed to be the weapons used in the attack. As of February 20, 2026, no further details have been released regarding the investigation into Deepak's mental health history or prior medical treatment.
The incident has left the village in shock, with authorities continuing their probe into the circumstances surrounding the killings. The injured nephew remains under medical care, while the community grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy. No additional information on the police investigation has been made public at this time.
