In a harrowing incident that unfolded on the evening of August 14, 2025, two young girls, aged eight and six, were involved in a tragic bathing accident in Schweinfurt, a town situated near Würzburg in Bavaria, Germany.
The incident occurred at a quarry lake on the southern edge of the town. Witnesses reported that the eight-year-old girl was found floating in the water, while the six-year-old girl was discovered further in the lake by a bystander.
The mother of the two children was standing in the water, frantically calling out for her other daughter. A brave man entered the lake in an attempt to search for the missing child.
Swimming wings were discovered near the scene of the accident, suggesting that the children may have been using flotation devices. Police reports indicate that the children were bathing unattended in shallow water and apparently went underwater.
The children were seriously injured as a result of the accident and were immediately brought to the shore. Emergency responders resuscitated them on the scene. As of the latest update, their condition is reported as critical[1].
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adult supervision when children are near water. Our thoughts and prayers are with the children and their family during this difficult time.
