Two Philippine Army trainees die from heat stroke during rigorous training

Two aspiring soldiers, Johndyl Lemosniro and Junel Flores, have died during military training in Capas, Tarlac. The incident occurred after both trainees suffered severe health complications linked to extreme physical exertion in high heat.

The trainees fell ill during the exercise and were rushed to the O'Donnell Medical Treatment Facility (CODMTF) as soon as symptoms appeared. Medical teams worked quickly to stabilise them, performing endotracheal intubation to secure their airways and assist breathing.

Despite these life-saving efforts, both men later died from brain complications and swelling—known as encephalopathy—caused by severe heat stroke. They were subsequently transferred to Tarlac Provincial Hospital for further advanced treatment, but their conditions did not improve.

The Philippine Army has extended its sympathies to the families of Lemosniro and Flores. Authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the welfare, health, and safety of all trainees in future programmes.
