UK adults skip exercise as British Airways boss warns of health risks
Greg Taylor, managing director of British Airways, urges adults to find time for exercise, even if it's just 30 minutes daily. This call comes as new research reveals concerning trends in British adults' physical activity levels and barriers to exercise.
The study, commissioned by DailyMotion, paints a concerning picture. More than half of UK adults (55%) do not meet the NHS's recommended exercise threshold. This involves at least 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity weekly. Worse still, 15% of adults do not exercise at all, and 35% manage no more than 60 minutes a week.
Lack of time (35%), lack of motivation (32%), and work (28%) are the main obstacles preventing adults from exercising. The average British adult spends six hours a day sitting down and walks only 6,500 steps daily. This sedentary lifestyle contributes to the exercise gap.
Parents seem to be more active with their children, with 67% exercising together. Popular activities include running, football, and dance. However, only 39% of adults feel pressured to exercise, with family and social media being the main triggers.
To tackle these issues, The Daily Mail has created the 'Charge Up In 30 Guide', a 30-minute workout that can be done during an electric vehicle's charge time. Greg Taylor encourages adults to make time for exercise, even in small increments, to improve overall health and well-being.
