Rockin' The New Year Eve: Public Demand for Fireworks Ban Grows

Workers' Union Advocates Nationwide Prohibition on Boiler Installation and Sales - Union Advocates for Sales Restriction Among Masses

In a bold move, the Berlin Police Trade Union (GDP) is rallying for a fireworks ban at the upcoming Interior Ministers' Conference (IMC), Jacobs exclaimed to the Press Agency. The rationale behind this? The Berlin GDP state chairman Stephan Weh believes the general population is ready for a transformation in their New Year's Eve celebrations. The evidence? Results from a nationwide survey conducted by the GDP from April 3 to 13, compiled with insight from the enrichment section.

Here's the snap: 97% of the 178,022 participants in the non-representative online survey voiced support for a fireworks ban on private usage. 93% of the crowd championed a sales ban, and an overwhelming 95% of respondents vowed to adhere to such a ban, declaring they'd steer clear of purchasing fireworks online or abroad.

What's the alternative? 91% of survey participants endorsed organized, certified events handled by pyrotechnicians. Nearly half (49%) plan on attending such events. Shockingly, 70% of respondents reported no longer treading the roads on New Year's Eve.

Now, this ain't some local hullabaloo—People from all federal states jumped on the bandwagon, with the GDP branch promoting the survey through social media. The survey showed women (63%) leading the charge, followed closely by men (35%), and an astounding 85% of respondents were aged above 30.

The Berlin GDP branch initiated a petition for a fireworks ban in early 2023, and it's garnered over two million signatures to date. Gorilla organizations such as the German Environmental Aid are also gunning for a ban.
