US food prices spike as coffee and groceries hit record highs in 2025
Coffee and grocery prices have surged in the US, with a 15.3% increase in coffee and a significant month-to-month jump in groceries from July to August 2025. This follows a 1.4% rise in average grocery prices since January 2025, affecting various food groups and products.
The price hike isn't limited to beef; dozens of grocery items have seen increases. The six monitored food groups all witnessed price rises between January and September 2025. Bananas, for instance, saw a 7.9% price spike. Tariffs are suspected as a contributing factor.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that grocery prices are down, excluding beef. However, data shows prices increased in five of the six overarching groups. Uncooked ground beef alone rose by 14.2%.
Despite the president's claims, grocery prices have risen across multiple categories since January 2025. Consumers can expect to pay more for a variety of products, with coffee and beef among the most affected.
