Vault 12's Deadly Secret: How a Broken Door Created the First Ghouls

Vault 12 was meant to protect people from nuclear war, yet its hidden purpose was far darker. Built as a public water shelter, it secretly served as a lab to study radiation's effects on humans. A faulty door ensured its residents were exposed, turning them into the first ghouls of the wasteland.

After the 2077 Great War, the broken door in Vault 12 let radiation flood inside. The trapped inhabitants mutated into ghouls, forming the core of a new community. These survivors later founded Necropolis, a major ghoul stronghold ruled by Set.

For years, Necropolis thrived under Set's leadership. But internal strife grew, especially between Set and his rival Talius. Their conflict weakened the city just as a greater threat emerged.

The Master, a powerful mutant warlord, saw Necropolis as a prize. He sent his super mutant army to seize control, enslaving the ghouls and taking their water supplies. Though Set and Talius briefly united against the invaders, their resistance failed. By the time the Vault 13 Dweller arrived in search of a water chip, Necropolis was already doomed.

The fall of Necropolis scattered its ghouls across the wasteland, with some possibly still hiding in the ruins. Vault 12's legacy remains a grim reminder of how the Vault experiments shaped the post-war world. The city's destruction also marked a turning point in the struggle against the Master's growing power.
