Vienna’s hospitals report a slight rise in births for 2025

Vienna’s hospitals witnessed a slight rise in births last year, with 13,181 infants delivered in WIGEV facilities. This indicates a small increase from 2024, when 13,116 children were born. Over half of all births in the city occurred under the Vienna Health Association’s care.

July 2025 proved the busiest month, with 1,247 births recorded. On average, 36 babies arrived each day across WIGEV hospitals. Among these, 264 were twins or multiple births.

WIGEV offers a wide range of services, from fertility support to postnatal care. The FEM Parents’ Outpatient Clinic at Ottakring Hospital plays a key role by providing psychological counselling for expectant and new parents. Their approach is designed to be accessible, helping families navigate challenges together.

Research shows that 15 to 20 percent of mothers and 5 percent of fathers experience depression during pregnancy or after childbirth. The clinic’s low-threshold services aim to address these needs early on.

The 2025 figures confirm WIGEV’s central role in Vienna’s maternity care. With specialised support and growing demand, the association continues to expand its services for parents. The slight increase in births reflects ongoing trends in the city’s healthcare system.
