Vienna’s Teddy Bear Hospital Helps Kids Conquer Medical Fears
A special hospital opened in Vienna this week—but its patients are not human. The Teddy Bear Hospital, designed to ease children’s fears of medical visits, welcomed its first furry patients on Tuesday. Hundreds of young visitors arrived with stuffed animals in tow, ready for check-ups and treatments in a playful setting.
The event takes place at the Vienna Medical Chamber on Weihburggasse, where organisers have recreated a full hospital experience. Inside, children find an admission desk, emergency room, dental clinic, and even operating theatres. Their toys can undergo mock procedures like ECG or CT scans, while the kids themselves get to assist as junior doctors.
The project offers more than just play—it gives children hands-on experience with medical environments. By treating their bears, they learn what to expect during real doctor visits. The Teddy Bear Hospital closes its doors on Thursday after three days of free, engaging activities for young visitors.
