Virginia Woman Arrested for Abuse and Neglect of Son with Autism
A Virginia woman, Manisha Nath, has been arrested for abuse and neglect leading to the death of her 28-year-old son with autism. Somak Nath was found in cardiac arrest and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Police discovered horrifying conditions in the house during their search. There was little to no food, black mold, and no running water. Somak was found covered in grime with sores on his back, indicating a lack of proper care credit. Manisha admitted to providing her son with only a bucket of water and a mug for bathing. Somak, who was nonverbal and unable to care for himself, weighed around 65 pounds at the time of his death and was severely malnourished with most of his teeth missing or rotted. Manisha, aged 60 and a doctorate holder according to neighbors, appeared virtually in the supreme court and was appointed a court-appointed attorney. Her next court appearance is set for Nov. 18. Manisha Nath faces charges of abuse and neglect resulting in the death of her son. The investigation into the case continues.
