Vladivostok surgeons remove pancreatic cyst without a single incision
Surgeons in Vladivostok have removed a pancreatic cyst containing a liter of fluid without a single incision, the press service of Primorsky Krai's Health Ministry reported.
"A man was rushed to Vladivostok Clinical Hospital No. 1 with severe abdominal pain and a sensation of pressure that made it difficult for him to breathe. An examination revealed a large cyst on his pancreas," the statement reads.
As Igor Kondrashov, head of the general surgery department, explained, such cysts often develop following pancreatic necrosis—a severe inflammatory condition that causes pancreatic tissue to break down. They can trigger acute pain and impair the function of nearby organs.
The procedure was performed using minimally invasive endoscopic techniques. Doctors accessed the cyst cavity through the stomach wall, opened it, and installed a special stent to drain the fluid.
The patient experienced relief within hours of the surgery, with the pain and abdominal pressure disappearing. He is now recovering and is expected to be discharged soon.
Earlier, surgeons at Vladivostok Clinical Hospital No. 2 successfully removed a large tumor from a 52-year-old woman who had been suffering from hip pain.
