Volunteers from Syktyvdy have contributed more than a thousand liters of salt, marinade, and jam to the designated area
In the heart of Syktyvkar, a vibrant volunteer movement, "Volunteering - a Lifestyle," has taken shape. Led by project leader Ekaterina Ilychukova, this group has been organising a unique initiative that sees volunteers not just collecting funds, but also preparing and sending homemade preserves to soldiers on the frontline.
The volunteers, who are constantly changing their field of activity to prevent burnout, have sent over a thousand liters of pickles, marinades, and jam to the special operation zone. Cranberries, renowned for their healing properties, are a popular choice for the preserves, with each jar coming with a mini-letter carrying a warm message for the soldiers.
Ekaterina Ilychukova emphasises the emotional aspect of the project, stating that it is important to the soldiers that they are loved and awaited. New packages of preserves are being sent by post to Belgorod, where like-minded people will deliver them to the fighters.
Local residents in Syktyvkar are actively participating in collecting materials for the preserves, providing berries, fruits, and vegetables. The stove in Ekaterina Ilychukova's home is almost never off for the continuous process of preparing preserves. Cranberries, known as "berries of immortality," are processed in a large tub for the preserves.
The movement also includes a letter-writing campaign, where volunteers write personal letters to show their support for the soldiers. The volunteers note that they work to lighten and brighten the life of fighters on the frontline, not for awards.
Ekaterina Ilychukova and Vera Ketova have received medals from the Combat Brotherhood of Komi for their dedicated work. The "Volunteering - a Lifestyle" movement in Syktyvkar is preparing a new batch of jam for special operation participants, demonstrating a strong community spirit and solidarity.
With the upcoming new harvest, many local residents are creating additional demand for sugar for preservation. The movement actively calls on benefactors, volunteers, and kind-hearted people to help with fundraising efforts to cover vital operations and related needs. This combination of practical help with emotional support underlines the movement’s comprehensive approach to volunteering as a lifestyle.
