Wesel's Health Awareness Week Returns in 2026 with Free, Inclusive Sessions
Health Awareness Week will take place from April 20, 2026 (opening at 2 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Wesel City Hall, Klever-Tor-Platz 1, 46483 Wesel, with remarks by the mayor followed by a lecture by Sabine Fabek-Fest on "Stress and Health") through April 25, 2026. A detailed schedule of workshops, lectures, and activities is available in an informational flyer, now distributed at public institutions across Wesel—including City Hall, the adult education center (VHS), local pharmacies, and partner organizations. The flyer can also be downloaded as a PDF from the city's website: www.ourwebsite.com****.
The week covers a broad range of topics—from "Healthy Nutrition" and "Optimal Movement" to "Discrimination"—targeting both the general public and professionals, with a special focus on people with immigrant backgrounds.
Many sessions are designed to be low-threshold, including offerings in plain language for accessibility.
This cross-organizational initiative is made possible by each partner independently organizing their events, while the City of Wesel covers speaker and trainer fees, totaling approximately €2,000.
All events are free for participants.
The Idea Behind It
Wesel's Integration Commissioner, Lotte Goldschmidtböing, hosts the "Wesel Connects" networking meeting twice a year, bringing together local organizations and institutions working with people with immigrant backgrounds.
At the October 2025 gathering, participants unanimously voted to revive the Health Awareness Week in 2026. Following the meeting, partners submitted proposals, resulting in a diverse program of events.
The first "Women's Health Week" was held in 2020, with a pandemic-related hiatus until its return in 2022.
