Woman spends £25K on semaglutide to lose four stone—despite risks and legal gray area

A £25,000 gamble on an unapproved drug reshaped her body—and her hair. The high cost of semaglutide isn’t the only price she’s paying.

Nicki Hari, 58, has spent around £25,000 on weight loss treatments, with semaglutide proving the most effective. The drug, produced by Eli Lilly and Company, is still in late-stage trials but has helped her shed four stone. Despite its illegality and side effects, she continues using it to maintain her results.

Hari initially tried Mounjaro, a similar weight loss drug, but found it too expensive. Switching to semaglutide, she dropped from 16st 5lb and a size 18 to 12st 5lb and a size 12. The transformation came at a cost—rapid weight loss triggered hair loss, forcing her to rely on clip-in extensions and a hair topper.

Hari’s weight loss journey has relied on semaglutide, despite its legal status and side effects. She plans to continue using it while investing in treatments for hair loss. The drug’s future availability and cost, including potential costco stock, will determine whether others follow her approach.
