Yekaterinburg glows blue for autism awareness this April
Yekaterinburg will light up in blue this April as part of the Light It Up Blue campaign. The event, running since 2016, aims to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorders. This year's activities include festivals, educational sessions, and illuminated landmarks across the city. On April 1, the Golden Section Foundation will kick off the #PeopleLikePeople festival. Children and youth groups will perform, highlighting inclusivity and creativity. The event is open to the public and supported by local organisations.
The following day, schools and colleges in Yekaterinburg will host *lessons in kindness*. Speakers will include autistic individuals and project organisers, sharing personal experiences and insights. These sessions aim to foster understanding and empathy among students. From 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, key buildings will glow blue. The City Administration, theatres, and parts of Lenin Avenue and Sverdlov Street will take part. The lighting symbolises calm, balance, and support for those with autism. The campaign has grown each year with backing from the city administration. Since its launch in 2016, it has become a recognised effort to promote awareness and acceptance.
The blue-lit landmarks will serve as a visible reminder of the campaign's message. Educational events and performances will continue to engage residents in discussions about autism. Organisers hope the activities will encourage greater inclusion and understanding in the community.
