Bad Krozingen boosts survival chances with expanded public defibrillators
Bad Krozingen Expands Public Defibrillator Network to Save Lives
The southern German town of Bad Krozingen is bolstering its emergency response system by installing more automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in public spaces. City officials announced today that the devices are now available in the town center and nearly all surrounding districts, with new units recently added at the Quellenhalle in Schlatt and the multi-purpose hall in Tunsel.
The expansion is largely thanks to the "Bad Krozingen Shocks!" initiative and the "Region of Lifesavers" association. The goal is to provide rapid assistance in cases of cardiac arrest, as medical research shows that every minute counts—currently, only about 10% of victims survive such emergencies.
The devices have been strategically placed in easily accessible locations. Some defibrillators previously kept indoors have been moved outside to ensure 24/7 availability. Funding for the project comes from donations, municipal budgets, and local supporters.
According to the city, a few additional locations in the town center still need sponsors. Meanwhile, public information sessions are being organized to reduce hesitation and increase confidence in using defibrillators.
One such event will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 7:00 PM in the multi-purpose hall in Tunsel, where residents can learn how to operate the devices.
The city views the expanded defibrillator network as a crucial step in strengthening public health preparedness across the Markgräflerland region.
