Bhopal battles extreme heat as hospitals see surge in illnesses

Bhopal is facing a sharp rise in heat-related illnesses as temperatures soar. Hospitals report more cases of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and cramps daily. Health officials have now launched urgent measures to protect residents from extreme heat effects. Hospitals across Bhopal are seeing a growing number of patients suffering from heat-related conditions. JP Hospital recorded a 10% increase in such cases this month alone. Hamidia Hospital treats between 15 to 20 heat-affected patients every day.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has ordered all health facilities to set up dedicated heat stroke management units. Authorities must also ensure ambulances are ready for emergencies and report heat stroke cases in real time on the IHIP portal.

To raise awareness, a programme called Beat the Heat was organised in Bakaniya village. Residents learned about protective measures against extreme temperatures. AIIMS Bhopal issued key advice, urging people to drink plenty of water, avoid midday sun, and wear light clothing. The institute also shared guidelines on first aid, nutrition, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle during the heatwave. The surge in heat-related illnesses has pushed health authorities to take swift action. Hospitals are now better equipped with specialised units and real-time monitoring. Public awareness campaigns continue to spread vital safety tips as temperatures remain high.
