Cebu Launches Groundbreaking Mental Health Support for Trauma Survivors
The Cebu provincial government has launched new mental health initiatives to support survivors of trauma and abuse. Officials have approved specialised care frameworks and begun constructing dedicated recovery facilities at the Women and Children in Crisis Intervention Center in Balay ni Neneng. Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Provincia Health Office Chief Dr. Shiela Faciol signed off on medical and mental health guidelines for use in government-run centres. These include psychological first aid, trauma processing, and improved access to treatment for conditions like depression and anxiety. Medication supplies have also been secured for distribution by psychologists.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office is now building ‘smart houses’ within the Balay ni Neneng compound. Each unit will feature air conditioning, a kitchen, and space for 8 to 10 survivors, along with administrative offices. The facilities aim to provide a safe and comfortable environment for recovery. For children, specialised therapies such as play and art sessions will help address emotional trauma. The government is also setting up help desks and referral systems at major transport terminals across Cebu. These measures will make it easier for victims to access support services when needed.
The new frameworks and facilities will expand mental health care for survivors in Cebu. Medication, therapy, and safe housing are now being rolled out to assist recovery. Officials have confirmed that the services will be available through both crisis centres and transport hubs.
