Two boys airlifted after near-drowning at Matthiessen State Park
Two boys were airlifted to hospital after an incident at Matthiessen State Park on Friday. The pair had been on a school field trip when one inhaled water and lost consciousness in the park’s swimming area. The incident happened while the boys, aged around 11 or 12, were roughhousing in the water. One of them inhaled water and became unconscious. Bystanders began performing CPR before police arrived at the scene.
Both boys were breathing and alert by the time they were airlifted to a hospital in Peoria. Medical staff noted signs of shock in each of them upon arrival. Doctors confirmed that neither boy suffered life-threatening injuries. The pair remained under observation following the incident. The school and park authorities have not released further details at this time.
