Pioneering Surgeon Dr. Mahak Bhandari Earns PhD for Robotic Surgery Breakthroughs
Dr Mahak Bhandari has been awarded a PhD in Surgery by Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University. His groundbreaking work in robotic and minimally invasive procedures has earned him widespread acclaim. The achievement was celebrated by his family, including Chancellor Dr Manjusree Bhandari and Founder Chairman Dr Vinod Bhandari.
Dr Bhandari’s research focused on comparing two advanced weight-loss surgeries: One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB) and Banded One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (BOAGB). His thesis examined outcomes using a fixed biliopancreatic limb of 180 cm. The study contributes to improving bariatric surgery techniques.
He is also recognised for performing India’s first successful tele-robotic hernia surgery. In another milestone, he conducted a tele-robotic operation from a moving bus as part of his *‘Surgeon on Wheels’* initiative. This innovation demonstrated the potential of remote surgery in challenging environments. An alumnus of MGM Medical College, Indore, and DY Patil Medical College, Mumbai, Dr Bhandari currently serves as Managing Director of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences. His expertise spans robotic, laparoscopic, and bariatric metabolic procedures. Over the years, he has carried out numerous successful surgeries in Indore and Ratlam.
The PhD recognition follows Dr Bhandari’s long record of surgical advancements. His techniques in robotic and remote operations have set new standards in modern medicine. The award further establishes his position as a leading figure in India’s medical innovation landscape.
