'Prolific' gym thief arrested after months-long California crime spree

A 40-year-old California woman has been arrested in connection with a string of gym locker burglaries across San Francisco. Andrania Yancy, described by police as a 'prolific' thief, was taken into custody on Monday after a multi-agency investigation spanning several counties. Yancy’s arrest followed a months-long probe into thefts at multiple fitness centres between November 2025 and March 2026. Authorities allege she used false identities to obtain day passes, then stole credit cards from lockers. Her criminal record dates back to at least 2008, with prior arrests for similar offences.

The operation to locate her involved both the San Francisco Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service. She was eventually found in Sacramento and transported to San Francisco County Jail #2, where she remains in custody. Court records also show Yancy has active stay-away orders from several gyms in the city. Her next court appearance is set for May 26.

The arrest closes a case that required coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies. Yancy now faces charges linked to the gym burglaries, with outstanding warrants in several counties still pending. The investigation highlighted her repeated use of false identities to access fitness facilities.
