Brave bystander helps foil violent kiosk robbery in Obernkirchen

A 34-year-old man violently robbed a kiosk in Obernkirchen in the early hours of Saturday morning. The incident began when the suspect forced his way into the closed shop by smashing a glass door. The attacker entered the premises while it was still shut. Once inside, he threatened a 22-year-old employee with a shard of broken glass. He demanded the worker leave the sales area before stealing items from the display.

The employee quickly alerted a 30-year-old bystander, who called the police and chased after the suspect. Together, they managed to overpower and restrain the man near Sülbecker Weg. When officers arrived, the suspect resisted arrest and tried to grab at their hands. No injuries were reported during the confrontation. The man was taken into custody, and a blood test was conducted. Due to a known mental health condition, he was later admitted to a specialised clinic for further assessment.

The suspect remains in custody following the robbery. Authorities have confirmed that no one was harmed during the incident. The investigation into the break-in and theft is ongoing.
