Drunken assault leads to restraining order after Hagen domestic dispute
On Wednesday evening (March 25), a man from Hagen called police emergency services to report domestic violence against him. He claimed his wife had attacked him in their shared apartment in Haspe. When patrol officers arrived, they found several shattered flowerpots scattered across the kitchen and living room floor.
The man appeared composed but visibly shaken as he described the incident to police. He said his wife, after drinking alcohol, had—without provocation—thrown multiple houseplants around the apartment and struck him repeatedly with both hands. Fearing for his safety, he had locked himself in the bathroom and called emergency services. He stated that there had been no prior physical altercations.
When officers arrived, his wife was in the bedroom, clearly under the influence of alcohol. A breathalyzer test registered a blood alcohol level of 0.13%. She shouted aggressively, then burst into tears, admitting she had hit her husband. Her keys were left in the apartment, and she was issued a 14-day restraining order barring her from returning, along with a criminal complaint.
Given indications of a possible mental health condition, Hagen's public order office arranged for her to be taken to a medical facility for evaluation.
