Maharashtra HSC results clash with NEET, sparking mental health concerns

The release of Maharashtra’s HSC results just days before NEET has sparked concerns over student mental health. Parents and student groups argue that the tight scheduling adds unnecessary pressure on young learners already facing high-stakes exams. The Maharashtra Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results were announced on Saturday, leaving little time before the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). NEET, a critical exam for medical aspirants, is known for its intense stress levels. Student representatives had earlier requested the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) to postpone the results, but the board proceeded as planned.

The Student Islamic Organisation (SIO), Mumbai, criticised the timing, calling it a source of immense mental strain. They urged authorities to adopt a more student-friendly approach when scheduling major exams. Anubha Shrivastav Sahai, president of the India-wide Parents Teachers Association, also highlighted the issue. She pointed to a lack of coordination between central and state examination bodies. Sahai suggested that future planning should include measures to reduce avoidable stress for students. The SIO echoed this, emphasising the need for a more thoughtful and supportive system.

The overlap between HSC results and NEET has drawn criticism from both parents and student organisations. Calls for better coordination and student-centric scheduling remain unaddressed for now. The issue raises questions about how exam timelines could be adjusted to ease pressure on young learners.
