Mother's 2026 trek with a wheeled horse honors daughter's legacy and mental health mission
In 2020, Emma was just an ordinary young British mother—well, Welsh, actually. From Newport. She faced the same daily struggles and small joys as anyone else, the little battles we all fight.
Then, suddenly, everything fell apart. Every value shattered. Brodie, just 16 years old, took her own life. Her daughter.
It was March 20th. Brodie's mind—a talented equestrian, passionate about show jumping, and deeply in love with her horse Archie, a striking bay—simply gave out. A dark period, years of bullying at school, and the inability to get the help she needed...
Since that cursed day, every action Emma has taken—once just an ordinary mother—has had a single purpose: to shine a light on the invisible, devastating mental health struggles of so many young people.
That's why, once again this year—as she has every year since 2020—Emma and Miles, a 90-kilogram wheeled horse, will set off on their journey.
The physical goal for 2026: the Badminton Horse Trials. The greater mission: raising funds for therapeutic pony visits and workshops to improve young people's mental health and well-being.
Over the years, Emma's march has gained growing popularity across Britain, with her route now tied to the country's most prestigious equestrian events.
In 2023, she arrived at the London International Horse Show—but not before walking part of the way alongside Prince William. An extraordinary surprise—just look at Emma's face—that brought the royal family's media influence to her cause, giving it a powerful endorsement.
This year's journey will begin at Goldcliff Cemetery, then pass through Newport, Langstone, Caldicot, and Chepstow. With Miles, she'll cross the old Severn Bridge, leaving Wales behind. From there, she'll continue through Bristol, Bath, and Bradford-on-Avon before reaching Badminton.
Emma hopes to raise £5,000 to fund therapeutic pony sessions and workshops designed to support young people's mental health and give them the tools to stay safe.
