Willich Launches Monthly Comfort Meal to Support Those Grieving Loss
A new monthly event called the Comfort Meal is launching in Willich to support people dealing with loss. The first gathering takes place on May 20 at the KRUMM Community Center, running from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. Organisers hope the shared meal will provide a comforting space for those grieving. The idea for the Comfort Meal grew from the success of local grief walks, led by Jürgen Kantchen and Michael Beckmann. Many participants found it easier to talk about their feelings while walking, prompting the creation of a similar supportive environment over food. The meal is backed by a team including Judith Knipp, Britta Jartwig, Eva Gröger, Elke Griese, and Katrin Richter.
Katrin Richter, a nutrition advisor, has designed the menu using fresh, seasonal, and vegetarian ingredients. The first meal will feature green asparagus quiche, creamy kohlrabi soup with radishes, spinach salad with dates and almonds, and a strawberry dessert. Each session costs €10 to cover food expenses, with registration required to ensure enough ingredients for all attendees.
The Comfort Meal will be held on the third Wednesday of every month, with upcoming dates set for June 17, July 15, August 19, September 16, October 21, November 18, and December 16. Like the grief walks, which take place every second Thursday, the meal is open to anyone who has experienced loss. Organisers stress that no one will be turned away, provided they register in advance. The Comfort Meal offers a regular opportunity for people to share a meal and connect with others in a supportive setting. With a focus on seasonal food and a welcoming atmosphere, the event aims to provide comfort to those navigating grief. Future sessions will continue on the third Wednesday of each month at the KRUMM Community Center.
