Woman collapses on Almaty's 'Stairway to Health' during steep climb

A 49-year-old woman collapsed while climbing the 'Stairway to Health' in Almaty’s Medeu area on Monday, May 18. Emergency teams quickly responded to revive her and ensure her safe descent from the mountain path. The incident occurred as the woman ascended the popular route, known for its steep terrain. Rescuers from the Barys Republican Rescue Service arrived promptly, administering first aid and stabilising her condition. They then coordinated her careful transfer down to the Medeu checkpoint.

After receiving initial medical treatment, she was transported to a nearby healthcare facility for further checks. Authorities later reminded hikers to take precautions in mountainous regions, including pacing themselves, drinking enough water, and watching for signs of exhaustion.

The woman is now under medical supervision following the ordeal. Officials continue to urge caution for those attempting challenging trails in the area. Proper preparation and awareness remain key to avoiding similar incidents.
