Freiburg Institute Celebrates 20 Years of Healing Artists' Minds and Bodies

For two decades, art and medicine have gone hand in hand at the Freiburg Institute of Musicians' Medicine, which is now celebrating its 20th anniversary.

From Thursday, May 7, to Saturday, May 9, 2026, the milestone will be marked with a specialist symposium in Freiburg. According to Freiburg University Hospital, the institute has brought together training, research, and medical care in the field of music since its founding.

A joint institution of the Freiburg University of Music and the University of Freiburg's Faculty of Medicine, it bridges the artistic practice of professional musicians with scientific research and specialized patient care.

At the university hospital, instrumentalists and those in speech-intensive professions receive treatment, with a focus on voice, movement, hearing, and mental health—including performance anxiety.

The institute also plays a unique role in education: students learn how to strengthen their physical and mental well-being in their artistic careers, while medical students gain insights into this specialized field.

The anniversary program includes lectures, workshops, and a celebratory concert, all aimed at fostering further dialogue between science, the arts, and clinical practice.
