Larry Vein, Palisades fire survivor and community leader, dies at 61
Larry Vein, a well-known entrepreneur and Palisades fire survivor, has died at the age of 61. His death was ruled a suicide by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office on April 27. Vein was remembered for his dedication to helping his community recover after the devastating January 2025 firestorm. Vein became a key figure in the recovery efforts, offering support through real estate initiatives and volunteering. His energetic optimism and regular updates kept the community informed and connected. He later founded the Pali Strong Foundation, a platform designed to streamline recovery information and provide a virtual space for survivors to share their experiences.
The foundation received $500,000 in funding, though this later sparked controversy. Despite this, Vein’s work left a lasting impact on many. After his death, tributes poured in from figures like Col. Eric Swenson and L.A. City Councilmember Traci Park, highlighting his contributions.
Studies show that wildfire survivors often face heightened risks of depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, particularly in the second year of recovery. Vein’s brother, Jon, reported receiving hundreds of calls from grateful community members who credited Larry with helping them through difficult times.
A memorial celebration to honour Vein’s life will take place at the Palisades Recreation Center on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Vein’s death has left a void in the Palisades community, where his efforts in recovery and support were widely valued. The memorial service will give residents and officials a chance to reflect on his legacy and the ongoing challenges faced by wildfire survivors.
