New 'Wishes in Motion' Vehicle Brings Comfort to Palliative Care Journeys
The 'Wishes in Motion' initiative has unveiled a new vehicle to help fulfil the last wishes of people in palliative care. Announced by the Gifhorn branch of the German Red Cross, the specially designed transport marks a key step for the volunteer-led project. Since its launch in 2017, the team has already made 35 deeply personal trips possible across Germany. The project began in 2017, founded by volunteers Philipp Michel and David Skiba alongside board member Sandro Pietrantoni. Its goal is simple: to grant final wishes, whether visiting landmarks or attending personal events. Each journey carries emotional weight, with 35 trips completed so far.
The new vehicle stands out from traditional ambulances. It features side windows for better views and a design focused on passenger comfort. Inside, there is space for a personal wheelchair and an in-cabin sound system. Despite its unique look, the vehicle meets all medical standards, complying with DIN EN 1789 regulations for safe patient transport. For the 13-strong volunteer team, this upgrade is more than practical—it brings them closer to the project’s original mission. Yet, financial support remains essential. The initiative relies on donations to keep offering these meaningful experiences to those in palliative care.
The new vehicle expands the project’s ability to grant wishes with dignity and comfort. It ensures that more people can travel safely while fulfilling their final requests. The team continues to seek funding to maintain and grow this service for the future.
