Analysts from the 2GIS geoservice have studied the fitness club market in Russia's million-plus cities. According to 2GIS data, as of March 2026, there were over 6,000 fitness clubs in the country's largest cities—a 3% increase compared to the previous year.

Yekaterinburg led the growth, with the number of fitness clubs rising by 18% to reach 383 facilities. Moscow saw an 11% increase, bringing its total to 1,700 clubs, while Voronezh rounded out the top three with an 8% rise, reaching 200 clubs.

Experts from 2GIS Pro analyzed the accessibility of fitness clubs in major cities and found that in every million-plus city, at least two-thirds of residents live within a 15-minute walk of the nearest club. Moscow had the highest share of residents living near fitness centers (94%), followed by St. Petersburg (90%) and Krasnodar (86%). Novosibirsk and Rostov-on-Don ranked fourth and fifth, with 83% each.

Over the past year, the minimum cost of a monthly fitness club membership in major cities rose by an average of 11%. The lowest prices were recorded in Omsk (from 2,740 rubles per month), Volgograd (2,835 rubles), and Voronezh (3,122 rubles). The highest prices were in Moscow (7,785 rubles), St. Petersburg (5,712 rubles), and Kazan (5,282 rubles). In Krasnodar, the average monthly membership cost 4,439 rubles.

Analysts at 2GIS also calculated what share of their monthly salary residents of major cities spend on an annual fitness club membership. Using median annual membership costs and average salaries for 2025 (as reported by Rosstat), they found that an annual membership typically amounts to about a quarter of a monthly wage.

The lowest annual membership prices were in Volgograd (from 13,000 rubles), Samara (15,000 rubles), and Omsk (15,700 rubles). The highest were in Moscow (from 39,250 rubles), St. Petersburg (31,950 rubles), and Kazan (27,000 rubles). Residents of Ufa (33.6%), Voronezh (31.5%), Kazan (29.8%), Novosibirsk (26.6%), and St. Petersburg (26.3%) spend the largest share of their salaries on annual memberships. The most affordable annual memberships relative to income are in Volgograd (16.1%), Perm (19.1%), Samara (19.6%), Omsk (21.5%), and Moscow (21.7%).
